Learning Support (SEND)

“Pupils with SEND follow the same rich curriculum as their peers. Teachers benefit from very clear information about these pupils, including how to help them access new knowledge. Teachers, therefore, make appropriate adaptations to their lessons so that all pupils can access the learning.”

Ofsted Report, January 2024

Forest Hill School is committed to meeting the needs of every student at the school. We teach a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum that helps every boy reach his potential in a healthy, happy and safe environment.

Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are highly valued in our school and are supported by a team of experienced staff and a Special Educational Needs Coordinator. We work hard to make sure that a child’s individual challenges are being addressed and monitored so that every child makes progress, both academically and emotionally.

Students who require intensive help are taught in our Explorer classes. These are small groups taught by a specialist teacher that run throughout Years 7, 8 and 9. Students in these groups cover the content of our usual KS3 curriculum but lessons are highly differentiated and taught via a series of fun projects.
